NAWBO Delaware Member Spotlight
| Cathy Imburgia Creative Communications |
On the local scene, Cathy has been a member of NAWBO since shortly after the Delaware Chapter was formed. Over the past 10 years, she has served on NAWBO national committees; is a past president of our chapter (2005-2007); served various board roles leading up to the presidency; and is currently Director of Public Policy, advocating on behalf of women business owners ... an admitted passion and why she agreed to rejoin the board after a year sabbatical. Cathy has held the position as President of Creative Communications since establishing the full-service communications firm in 1993. Creative Communications is an award-winning certified Women Business Enterprise (WBE) licensed and incorporated in the State of Delaware and a federal-certified Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE). Recently, Cathy expanded her business to the Albuquerque, New Mexico vicinity where she also enjoys the benefits of NAWBO membership with the Northern New Mexico Chapter attending meetings and linking up with members/potential business partners on each visit. Cathy's entrepreneurial spirit, her strong support for women in business, and her community involvement are the cornerstones that have made her a successful business owner. In recognition of her efforts in addressing the issues challenging women-owned businesses, Cathy received the SBA Delaware 2007 Women in Business Champion Award. In acknowledgement of her entrepreneurial accomplishments, Cathy was awarded the 2000 and 2007 Delaware State Chamber of Commerce Superstar in Business Award of Excellence. Most recently, she received the 2009 NAWBO Women Business Owner of the Year Award and was honored as a Top 100 Minority and Women Business Enterprise in the mid-Atlantic Region. She has also been recognized by her peers for her outstanding employee communications and social marketing work, including nine local and two regional acknowledgements. Prior to establishing CreativeCommunications, Cathy was employed as a manager and communications specialist with Westinghouse Electric Corporation, The Boeing Company and Hewlett-Packard Company. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University where she holds a B.A. degree in Journalism. While she spends nearly one-third of her time in New Mexico these days, Cathy calls Delaware her home. She resides in Claymont with her husband of 26 years, John, and their three children Katrina (22), Christine (17), and Joey (15). She noted that whether here in Delaware or in New Mexico, there is never a dull moment. Somehow she always manages to meet her family, business, and volunteer commitments no matter where she is.
