The Women Mean Business Summit was a huge success!! March 9, 2010
Welcome to this special edition of the NAWBO Delaware Newsletter! It is special because we wanted to share all the good things emanating from our recent "Women Mean Business® Summit" featuring acclaimed speaker, author and consultant, Mary Cantando.
![]() The morning kicked off early for a few lucky attendees who won a "backstage pass" to have breakfast with Mary Cantando. Each attendee brought a business issue they were facing and Mary offered a solution on the spot. Here's what one person had to say:
"Thank you for spending the time with me at the Backstage Breakfast and after the meeting. I appreciated your honesty with all of us. You were there to teach and inspire - and you did just that." - Carol Warner
We then listened in as Mary led a panel discussion with three local businesswomen who have built multi-million dollar businesses. Beverly Stewart (Back To Basics Learning Dynamics), Patricia Troy-Brooks (Advanced Staffing) and Ellen Barrosse (Synchrogenix Information Strategies) shared stories of dreams, adversity, triumphs and fears that had us all riveted by what they had to say.

![]() Mary then took us through a workshop, "Describe What You Sell So They Will WANT to BUY!" Several attendees volunteered to be on stage with Mary and received help on developing their "WOW Statements!"
Finally there was time to catch our breaths, network and visit our fantastic exhibitors.

Mary delivered a powerful luncheon keynote, "Busting Excuses: What's Stopping You From The Business of Your Dreams?"
After lunch, attendees had a choice of sponsor workshops to attend. Thanks to Charlie Gillean (AstraZeneca) for his workshop, "Getting Your Foot in the Door with Large Corporations" and Cathy Imburgia (Creative Communications) for her workshop, "Branding Your Status: Using Your Certification as an Advantage".
Mary closed out the program with her "20 Ideas in 20 Minutes". She took the best tips from her "2010 Woman's Advantage Calendar". These are tips she receives from women entrepreneurs around the world. The best 365 make the calendar. An example is February, 21 - "You can't change yesterday, but you can ruin today worrying about tomorrow."
All in all, it was a tremendous day. In all the years I've been working and in the years since I've had my own "shop," I have never been to a program like this one ... practical tools to take away and use. Each and every one of us implemented one or more Key Learnings since leaving.
Based on post-event survey feedback, 90% of respondents thoroughly enjoyed the day! Here are just a few of the many comments we received from attendees:
If you want to see or relive memories from the Women Mean Business Summit, click here. (User ID: nawbo, Password: success.) Special thanks to our photographer, Theresa Knox. She was all over the place during the event capturing images and memories. She had more energy than most in the room despite her being "72 years young". You go girl!
Soon we will be posting video highlights and testimonials on our website, www.nawbodelaware.org. Special thanks go out to our videographers, Yvonne and Darin Norwood of Lifetime Video Services.
If you want to pick up more of Mary Cantando's wisdom, check out her books and audio cd's at her website www.womansadvantage.biz. We still have some 2010 Woman's Advantage Calendars for sale. If interested, contact Caren McCabe.
Finally, let me say a big THANKS to everyone who helped to make the Women Mean Business Summit a tremendous success:
